Back Pain Lower back pain in relation to foot problems is described as a generalized dull pain that is felt across the lower back, and is often made worse by prolonged standing in one position.

When there is excessive rolling of the feet or over pronation, other parts of the body are affected; these includes the leg, buttocks, and lower back. The muscles of the lower back will try to keep a normal posture, which in return only gives more strain to the muscles of the lower back.

Lightfeet insoles assist the lower back muscles in maintaining a normal posture by controlling the excessive pronation of the foot.

What is Lower Back Pain?

Lower back pain is a condition usually seen among patients with flat feet or those with problems associated with excessive pronation.

Whenever you walk or run, the feet act as shock absorbers as you shift weight from one foot to the other. Excessive inward rolling of the foot will cause the lower leg to also rotate, causing the pelvis to tilt forward. Because of this, the curvature of the lower back may increase; creating stiffness that could eventually lead to pain.

What Causes Lower Back Pain?

  • Muscle strain – common cause among runners
  • Weak abdominal and lower back muscles
  • Foot deformities
    • Morton’s toe – a large second toe could cause weight imbalance and back pain
    • Flat feet – may cause extreme lower back pain
    • Misaligned foot
